It is a lightning arrester also called a lightning diverter used for the protection of buildings and equipment from lightning strikes preventing damage to electronic instruments within and ensuring the safety of individuals near them. It safely diverts the abnormal high voltage from lightning through a wire connected with an arrester and earthing in the ground.
